Despite having three operational water sports centres — at Pong Wetland in Kangra district, Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur district and Pirdi in Kullu district — Himachal Pradesh has largely failed to produce competitive water sports athletes capable of representing the state at national or international championships. Instead, these centres have primarily generated trained professionals who find employment as river guides, instructors or tourism operators.
