Wet spell intensifies in Himachal, more dip in mercury likely
Yellow, orange alerts issued for many districts of HP until Apr 9
Snowfall in the higher reaches and rain accompanied by hailstorms across much of Himachal Pradesh are expected to persist over the coming days, with the State Meteorological Department issuing yellow and orange alerts for several districts until April 9.
A yellow warning has been sounded for Shimla and Mandi districts on April 6, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated locations. The department has forecast sustained spells of rain and snowfall across the state till April 11, with April 7 and 8 likely to witness more intense precipitation. While maximum temperatures are currently near normal, they are expected to decline by 3°C to 5°C over the next three to four days.
Over the past 24 hours, widespread precipitation has been recorded. Gondhla in Lahaul and Spiti district registered the highest snowfall at 28.5 cm, followed by Keylong with 20 cm, Hansa 5 cm and Kukumseri 1.3 cm. Rainfall was also reported across several regions, with Sarahan in Shimla district receiving 23.5 mm, Dharamsala 18.2 mm, Manali 17 mm, Shimla 13.4 mm, Kalpa 11 mm, Kangra 8.4 mm, Mandi 8.2 mm and Solan 2.2 mm.
Minimum temperatures remained largely normal, but maximum temperatures dropped sharply by 2°C to 8°C across the state. Shimla recorded a minimum of 7.5°C, Dharamshala 12°C, Manali 5.1°C and Kalpa 0.6°C.
Una was the warmest place with a maximum of 34°C, while Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti remained the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of 0.2°C.
