Woman debarred from HPPSC exams

Shimla, October 22

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) today debarred a woman candidate from taking any examination in the state after a mobile phone was recovered from her custody during examination.

The candidate from Delhi had taken her phone in the examination centre at Government College, Bilaspur, during the preliminary examination of the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services held on September 13.

The mobile, hidden in her pouch, was recovered and confiscated and the complaint reached the commission, which took a serious note of the incident, sources in the commission said.

The decision has been conveyed to other commissions as well as the UPSC.

Sources said strict measures had been taken to ensure transparency and necklace and other equipment which could be used as a tool for cheating had not been allowed.

During the Covid pandemic, the number of examination centres has been increased due to mandatory social distancing and 100 candidates, that were earlier accommodated in one hall, are now accommodated in six halls and the commission has urged the state government to install CCTV cameras in all examination centres. — TNS
