Woman drug peddler held with heroin
In a major crackdown on drug peddling, the Nurpur police arrested an alleged woman smuggler, Rajni Bala, alias Rajji, with 62.90 gm of heroin (chitta) in the Damtal police station area. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) raided a house in Bhadroya and apprehended the accused. She was booked under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and presented in court, which remanded her to police custody for further probe.
According to Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan, Rajni Bala is a habitual offender. She had previously been caught with 6.10 gram of heroin in 2019, and that case is still under trial. The increasing involvement of women in interstate drug smuggling in the border areas has become a growing concern. Despite repeated arrests, many offenders resume drug peddling after securing bail. This poses a significant challenge for the Nurpur police in their ongoing anti-drug campaign.
To curb the menace, the police have intensified efforts to dismantle the interstate drug supply chain. They have also initiated financial investigations and property confiscations against habitual offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act. These measures have yielded positive results.
