Marking International Women’s Day, the Indian Society of Anesthesiologists, Kangra, organised a public awareness programme at Dharamsala to educate citizens about essential life-saving techniques during emergencies.

Women anesthesiologists led demonstrations and interactive sessions, highlighting five crucial skills that every person should know to respond effectively in critical situations. These included compression-only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, the recovery position for an unconscious but breathing person, the leg raise technique to assist individuals experiencing fainting or low blood pressure, the Heimlich manoeuvre to relieve choking in adults and basic first aid practices in emergency situations.

Doctors said immediate action by bystanders in the first few minutes of a medical emergency could significantly improve survival chances until professional help arrived.

The programme aimed to empower the community with practical emergency response skills while also celebrating the vital role of women doctors in healthcare and public service.
