Women outnumber men in Arki, Nalagarh

SOLAN: Women voters outnumbered men in two of the five Assembly segments of Solan district in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday.

Women voters outnumbered men in two of the five Assembly segments of Solan district in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday. The voter turnout in Shimla was recorded at 75.80 per cent.

According to data procured from the district election office, Nalagarh recorded the highest women voter turnout of 80.66 per cent as against 78.46 per cent men turnout. Women voters ( 74.75 per cent) of Arki also outnumbered men (72.76 per cent ).

In the remaining three segments of Doon, Solan and Kasauli, men turned out in large numbers than women to exercise their franchise. In Solan, which comprises a large number of urban habitations, women voter turnout was the lowest at 70.17 per cent against men turnout of 70.60 per cent.

Doon topped the district as it witnessed the maximum turnout — 80.63 per cent men and 79.27 per cent women. In Kasauli, 77.21 per cent men and 75.85 per cent women exercised their franchise. Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Vinod Kumar said awareness activities by the district election office helped increase the voter percentage. He said it was commendable that a large number of rural women turned out to cast their vote. As many as 63.64 per cent of the third gender also exercised their franchise in the district.

In Shillai (Sirmour district), 70.88 per cent women and 68.72 per cent men cast their votes. In the remaining four Assembly segments of Sirmour, the participation of men voters was larger.

Nahan recorded the highest men turnout of 80.35 per cent as against 77.94 per cent of women. In Pacchad, the home turf of BJP candidate Suresh Kashyap, men turnout was recorded at 78.95 per cent and that of women at 73.12 per cent.

Renukaji recorded the lowest voting (71.92% men and 68.26% women) while in Paonta Sahib 77.73 per cent men turned out to vote as against 76.34 per cent women.

Mandi: Women voters outnumbered men in the Mandi parliamentary constituency. Out of total 12,67,985 voters, 4,69,432 female voters exercised their franchise as against 4,60,323 male voters who turned up for voting.

Out of total 17 Assembly segments which fall under Mandi parliamentary constituency, female votes in seven Assembly segments of Sarkaghat, Mandi, Balh, Jogindernagar, Darang, Sundernagar and Nachan, outnumbered male voters.

Data availed from the Election Commission reveals that the highest voter turnout of female voters (35,014) was observed in Jogindernagar Assembly segment.

In Mandi parliamentary constituency an impressive 73.32 per cent voting was observed. The highest polling percentage (81.52%) in general was observed in Seraj Assembly segment(81.52%), the home constituency of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, while the lowest (62.87%) was in Lahaul Spiti assembly segment.
