World Mental Health Day

The psychology department of St Bede’s College, Shimla, conducted a special assembly on World Mental Health Day.



The psychology department of St Bede’s College, Shimla, conducted a special assembly on World Mental Health Day. The assembly began with a group song, sensitising the audience about the stigma attached to mental health, followed by a presentation on stress. The function progressed into a play ‘Inside Out’, followed by a musical drama and an interactive session with the audience. The idea was conceived by Dr Ravi Bhushan and guided by Dr Bharti Gandhi and Mohit Kumar from the department of psychology. The feedback from the audience was encouraging.

Need to preserve bio-resources 

Climate is an integral part of the eco-system and human health is impacted directly or indirectly by results of climatic conditions. This was stated by Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University Prof Sikander Kumar at a two-day national conference on “Himalayan Biodiversity and Bioresource Utilisation” organised by the department of bio-sciences in collaboration with the HPU Biological Society. Prof JS Tara from Jammu University spoke about the eco-system in the higher altitude of the Himalayan region, particularly giving an example of Ladakh. 

50th anniv of HPU chemistry dept 

The alumni of the chemistry department of Himachal Pradesh University gathered to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their department. The department was established in August 1969 as the Regional Centre of Panjab University, Chandigarh, till the establishment of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The objective of organising such an event was to motivate the students to excel in life. 

Pinegrove School in hockey final

Hosts Pinegrove School, Solan, will clash with Punjab Public School, Nabha, in the final of the 22nd Sub-Junior Inter Public School Hockey Tournament for Boys 2019 at Dharampur. Earlier in the league matches of the tournament, Pinegrove boys lost their last league match against PPS, Nabha, 2-3 not before they had made their way into the final by virtue of their impressive victories in the earlier league matches. Anitwinder of the winning side was declared the ‘Player of the Match’. In the match between Mayo College, Ajmer, and Scindia Boys’ School, Gwalior, the score card read 5-0 in favour of Mayo College. Advaya Sidharth Bhatia of Mayo College was declared the ‘Player of the Match’. PPS, Nabha, marched into the final by outplaying Scindia School, Gwalior, 4-0. Salaria of the winning side was declared the ‘Player of the Match’.

Awareness on man-made disasters

As many as 32 students and 14 teachers of St Bede’s College took part in a rally organised by the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority to create awareness on natural and man-made disasters. Posters were made by the students. A quiz was also held. Various awareness videos were shown on disaster preparedness and after that students and teachers went to see the exhibition, where the medical staff taught the students and teachers the technique used in medical emergencies like heart attack or cardiac arrest which was CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation).
