Mandi, December 1
With Sissu witnessing a huge influx of tourists following the opening of the Atal Tunnel, the state government has decided to construct a yatri niwas in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti in the coming days. After the opening of the Atal Tunnel, tourist activities have increased in the region.
The government has directed the Lahaul-Spiti administration to identify a tract of land at Sissu for the construction of the niwas.
The authorities are expecting more tourists in the Lahaul valley in the summers. Currently, the district is not equipped to handle the tourist rush owing to a limited number of hotels and homestays in Lahaul-Spiti.
Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda said, “The state government is planning to construct a yatri niwas at Sissu. As soon as the land is identified, funds will be allocated for the construction.”
The minister said their aim was to promote tourism in the tribal district, which was blessed with the bounty of nature. All efforts would be made to provide the basic infrastructure for the promotion of adventure tourism.
