Rs 1,800-cr meth dumped in sea off Gujarat coast seized
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), operating under the Ministry of Defence, along with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), intercepted narcotics worth Rs 1,800 crore in a joint overnight operation. The ICG described the seizure as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.
The operation, conducted on the intervening night of April 12–13, led to the recovery of approximately 300 kg of methamphetamine. Acting on intelligence provided by the Gujarat ATS, an ICG ship deployed off the coast of northern Maharashtra and southern Gujarat was diverted to intercept a suspected drug transfer near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
Upon spotting the approaching Coast Guard vessel, the suspects aboard the boat dumped the narcotics into the Arabian Sea before fleeing across the international boundary line. The ICG ship’s crew promptly launched a recovery operation to retrieve the dumped consignment.
The seized drugs have been transported to Porbandar for further investigation. This operation marks the 13th successful joint effort between the ICG and Gujarat ATS in recent years.
