1st Bengal Cabinet meet: Praise for EC, land for border fencing, Ayushman Bharat among key decisions

High praise for the Election Commission, promise of land transfer for fencing along the border with Bangladesh and approval to Ayushman Bharat scheme in Bengal were among the six decisions taken at the first Cabinet meeting of the state council of ministers today.

The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari appreciated the efforts of the EC, poll observers, CAPF and Kolkata police in helping conduct a free and fair election.

The Cabinet also observed a moment of silence for and paid respects to over 300 party workers who died during the TMC rule in the state and said the state government will take their full responsibility with potential of job for their next of kin.

In another move to ensure prevention of illegal immigration, the Cabinet decoded to commerce the land transfer to the Border Security Force (BSF) to fence India-Bangladesh border, the longest land border for any Indian state.

The land transfer will be concluded in 45 days.

The Cabinet, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent announcement said that Ayushman Bharat scheme would be implemented in Bengal soon.

All other Central Government schemes, which the erstwhile TMC government had blocked, will be started.

The state will also immediately roll out Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, not previously notified by Bengal.

Further, IAS and IPS officers of the state cadre will be allowed Central training.

The Cabinet also granted approval for year extension in age limit of school job applicants as promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The TMC government had ignored June 2025 Census circular from the Ministry of Home, but today the Cabinet granted immediate nod to implement it.
