AAP releases first list of 22 candidates for Kerala polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced its first list of 22 candidates for the upcoming Kerala Assembly polls. AAP’s state working president Selina Philip will contest from Kottayam.
Other candidates include Dr. Alphonsa Mathew from Kozhikode, Vinu K from Nemom, Mamachan D from Kottarakkara, and advocate Basil from Thodupuzha, among others, who will seek the people’s mandate.
Udayan Sukumaran from Palakkad, Jose George from Thirkkakara, and Abdul Aziz from Mallapuram are some of the other candidates in the fray.
Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal had recently announced that his party would contest the Kerala Assembly elections, where the major contest is between the ruling Left and the opposition Congress.
A delegation led by AAP’s state president Vinod Witson Mathew had met Kejriwal, requesting the party to contest in the Kerala elections. Following this meeting, the national leadership gave the green signal for the party to enter the fray.
According to reports, Arvind Kejriwal is also expected to visit Kerala as part of the election campaign. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had said that the forthcoming elections in Kerala are expected to set a benchmark for democratic practices, expressing confidence in the state’s election machinery and political parties’ cooperation.
“All the political parties and the entire election machinery have assured that the upcoming elections in Kerala are going to be the model not only for the country, but for the world,” he said.
