Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker will undertake an official visit to India from April 14 to 17 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking his first trip to the country and his maiden official visit to Asia.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Stocker will be accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Austria’s Federal Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, along with senior officials and business leaders, signalling a strong economic and strategic focus to the visit.

During his stay, Stocker will hold wide-ranging talks with Modi aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, energy and technology. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on key regional and global developments and explore avenues for enhanced coordination in multilateral forums.

Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary. As part of his official engagements, the Austrian Chancellor will call on President Droupadi Murmu, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is also scheduled to meet him.

The visit comes amid a steady upswing in India-Austria relations, particularly following Modi’s visit to Austria in July 2024, which was widely seen as a turning point in elevating bilateral ties.

India and Austria share longstanding, friendly relations anchored in shared democratic values and expanding economic engagement. The upcoming visit is expected to further consolidate the partnership and open new avenues of cooperation in emerging sectors.
