West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the BJP of bringing in “paid supporters” from other states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to influence the upcoming elections.
Addressing a rally, the TMC chief claimed that these “outsiders” were not just supporters, but were attempting to import what she described as the “worst elements of their culture” into Bengal.
Referring to incidents during Suvendu Adhikari’s nomination rally in Bhabanipur, Banerjee accused BJP supporters of unruly behaviour, alleging they tore down posters, damaged campaign material, harassed women bystanders, and even displayed disrespect towards the sacred Maa Kali temple by showing shoes in its direction.
“This is the ‘Poriborton’ they want to force upon Bengal—a culture of goondagardi, disrespect for women and contempt for our faith and traditions,” Banerjee said. She emphasised that the people of Bengal would reject such “hooliganism” with “utter contempt.”
