Targeting the Congress over the Supreme Court upholding the constitutional validity of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the BJP on Wednesday said the opposition INDIA bloc was standing with illegal voters.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said the verdict had completely exposed the Opposition’s narrative against the voter roll revision exercise initiated by the poll body.

“After a decisive and massive defeat in Bihar and West Bengal and after their nefarious design to instigate anarchy in the country failed, this is now a constitutional defeat for the Congress,” he said.

“All their malicious attempts to accuse and malign every institution of democracy in order to cover up their political incompetence have today failed on the grounds of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Trivedi termed the judgment a “political, moral and constitutional defeat” for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition alliance.

He alleged that the Congress had attempted to blame the Election Commission after electoral setbacks and accused the party of trying to undermine democratic institutions.

“The Supreme Court has upheld this exercise as constitutionally valid, affirmed it as falling within the authority of the Election Commission, and deemed it indispensable for the conduct of free and transparent elections,” he said.

The BJP leader further claimed that the Opposition opposed the SIR exercise because it was protecting “infiltrators” rather than genuine voters.

He said the true character of the INDIA alliance, which he described as “anti-Sanatan Dharma and protectors of infiltrators”, had now been exposed.

Trivedi said the issue was not limited to the allegations against the SIR process being proven baseless, but that the matter was far more serious.

He said today, opposition parties, especially the Congress, “have an understanding with China, their family is in Italy, their ideological centre lies in England and Europe, their propaganda is driven by American institutions and the flow of votes is linked to Bangladesh”.
