Brazil President Lula arrives in India to attend India-AI Impact Summit

India and Brazil elevated their ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2006 and share a close and multifaceted relationship rooted in democratic values, a common global vision and a commitment to inclusive growth

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a State Visit, during which he will participate in the India–AI Impact Summit and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Lula was warmly received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, marking the commencement of a high-profile visit aimed at imparting fresh momentum to the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership.

During his stay, the Brazilian President will attend the India-AI Impact Summit, a key global forum bringing together world leaders, policymakers and technology experts to deliberate on the future of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Prime Minister Modi and President Lula are scheduled to hold bilateral discussions, during which they will review the full spectrum of cooperation under the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, talks are expected to cover trade and investment, defence, energy, agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, critical minerals, science and technology, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence and space cooperation.

Regional and global issues — including reformed multilateralism, global governance and matters concerning the Global South — are also likely to figure prominently in the discussions.

India and Brazil elevated their ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2006 and share a close and multifaceted relationship rooted in democratic values, a common global vision and a commitment to inclusive growth. Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with expanding cooperation across economic and strategic sectors.

President Lula’s visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral engagement and deepen coordination between two major voices of the Global South.
