Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has emerged at the centre of fresh political buzz, with senior party figures publicly backing her for a larger leadership role, even as the BJP targets her over foreign policy criticism.

The push gathered momentum on Tuesday when Congress Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood openly projected Priyanka Gandhi as a potential prime ministerial face, arguing that she carries the political experience, resolve and legacy required for national leadership.

He said her background and temperament placed her in a position to respond firmly to major challenges, drawing a parallel with her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Masood’s remarks came amid the BJP’s criticism that Priyanka Gandhi had not spoken strongly enough on reports of violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The comments triggered sharp political reactions and intensified the debate around her role within the Congress.

Reacting to the growing speculation, businessman Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband, said his wife Priyanka had a bright future in politics and a time would come when people would like to see her at the top position.

“I think Priyanka (Gandhi) also has learnt a lot from her grandmother (Indira Gandhi), her father (Rajiv Gandhi), Sonia ji and her brother (Rahul) as well. People do admire her. People see that she has got... When she speaks, she speaks from her heart. She speaks on subjects that really need to be heard and she debates on them,” Vadra said.

However, he stressed that the priority should remain on addressing issues affecting ordinary citizens. He said political ambitions and leadership demands would always exist, but public concerns needed immediate attention.

Masood, however, remained firm in his endorsement, asserting that Priyanka had the conviction and lineage to lead the country if given the responsibility. He suggested that her leadership would send a strong message, both domestically and internationally.
