Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal on Tuesday accused the BJP and its ideological affiliates of orchestrating and enabling targeted attacks against Christians across several states, alleging a pattern of organised violence and administrative silence.

In a post on X, Venugopal said recent incidents reflected what he described as the BJP’s “rabid hatred towards Christianity”, claiming that party leaders and Sangh Parivar workers were willing to “go to any lengths to insult minorities”, even targeting vulnerable individuals.

He alleged the situation had deteriorated to the point where entire villages were boycotting Christians and banning their entry, with state governments remaining mute spectators. He cited incidents from BJP-ruled states including Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, claiming Christians were being attacked in a coordinated manner with the “total complicity of the ruling regime”.

Venugopal also referred to an incident in Palakkad, Kerala, where he alleged that RSS workers attacked a children’s carol choir. He said the episode exposed what he termed the BJP’s “true character”, accusing the party of masking its ideology while promoting intolerance on the ground.

The Congress on Tuesday also demanded a CBI probe monitored by a serving or a retired Supreme Court judge into the murder of Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand following the surfacing of the name of a senior national level BJP leader in the matter.
