ED initiates probe into Jharkhand PSC exams 'irregularities' case
Development comes even as government announces CID, ED investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination, official sources said.
The development has come even as the Hemant Soren-led government had announced that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the ED would investigate alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations after a marathon meeting with the JPSC-JSSC protesting students.
Following the meeting, state minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu had said on Sunday that the government believes that 98 per cent of the demands raised by the protesting students have been accepted.
He had said the government agreed to several demands, including cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination and backlog recruitment examinations held in 2023 and 2025.
However, the government did not agree to the students' demand for cancellation of the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam or their call for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in government recruitment exams.
“The remaining two per cent, specifically the demand to cancel the CGL exam, could not be met because the government cannot unilaterally cancel an examination conducted under the directions of the High Court and Supreme Court,” Sonu said.
The protesting students, however, have rejected the state government’s proposal and called for a “Vidhan Sabha gherao” (Assembly march) today.
According to agitating students, the primary demand for a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities had not been accepted by the state government.
