The restriction comes into force from April 21 as campaigning ends for 152 seats, which will go to the polls in the first phase.
According to an order issued by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in West Bengal, the move aims to maintain a peaceful, violence-free environment and prevent any form of intimidation or disruption during the electoral process.
According to the directive, no motorcycle rallies will be permitted from two days before polling. Additionally, motorcycle movement will be restricted between 6 pm and 6 am, except in cases of emergencies such as medical needs or urgent family matters.
The order also prohibits pillion riding on motorcycles, except for essential purposes, including medical emergencies, family functions or necessary activities such as dropping or picking up schoolchildren.
However, some relaxation has been provided on the polling day. Family pillion riding will be allowed between 6 am and 6 pm to enable voters to reach polling stations, as well as for other essential requirements.
The Election Commission has also stated that individuals requiring exemptions from these restrictions must obtain written permission from the local police station. These measures were being taken to ensure the security and integrity of the electoral process, and the public was urged to comply with them in the interest of a peaceful and orderly election, it added.
