Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe Congress on Tuesday demanded that the Union Government issue a clear statement on the car explosion near Red Fort, saying that confusion and fear have gripped citizens over the absence of official information even a day after the incident.
Party spokesperson Pawan Khera said the lack of clarity from the Home Ministry, Delhi Police and Central agencies was fuelling anxiety across the Capital. “People deserve to know what really happened. It’s not reassuring that there’s still no confirmation on whether this was an attack or an accident,” he remarked.
Khera criticised the government for relying on unnamed sources to brief the media on such a grave matter. He said the situation called for an official press briefing by the Home Minister, Home Secretary, or Delhi Police Commissioner to convey verified details rather than speculative narratives.
He added that while certain operational details may need to remain confidential, the government must dispel rumours through transparent communication. “Floating unverified theories only worsens public panic,” he cautioned.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Tuesday registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the explosion and carried out multiple raids across the city. Preliminary findings have reportedly hinted at a possible link between the blast and a terror module earlier uncovered in Faridabad.
