I don’t need RC, licence, AAP MLA’s son tells police, fined
The Delhi Police have penalised AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s son for allegedly driving a motorcycle without a helmet and misbehaving with the on-duty police personnel, a senior police officer said on Friday.
The officer told The Tribune that one of the two boys riding the two-wheeler even made a call to the AAP MLA, who then spoke to the SHO of Jamia Nagar in a “rude manner”.
Meanwhile, the AAP MLA has refuted the allegations, saying that the police were deliberately targeting his son as the motorcycle he was riding had his party’s flag. Besides, the two-wheeler did not belong to him, he added.
“Our fight is not only with the BJP, but also with the police. It was a petty issue. The way the SHO misbehaved was completely unacceptable. I have spoken to the ACP of Sarita Vihar and told him that the way SHO is working is not right. We are neither afraid of them, nor we will tolerate this. We will contest elections with full force,” Khan said.
According to the officer, the police, who were on patrol duty on Nafees Road, Batla House, spotted two boys riding a motorcycle on the wrong side of the road, that too in a zigzag manner, and creating loud noise using a modified silencer.
Cops targeted him due to party flag
The police are deliberately targeting my son as the motorcycle had our party’s flag. The two-wheeler did not even belong to him. -- Amanatullah Khan, AAP MLA
The alleged motorcycle was intercepted, checked and the riders were questioned, the police officer said.
As per the general diary entry — accessed by The Tribune — the boy, who was driving the motorcycle, allegedly misbehaved with the policemen. He accused them of deliberately stopping his vehicle as it had a sticker of “AAP” pasted on it.
When the policemen asked him to furnish relevant documents, driving licence and RC of the vehicle, he told them that he was the son of local MLA Amanatullah Khan.
“I don’t need RC and licence... I am MLA Amanatullah Khan’s son,” an excerpt from the diary entry read. The boy then made a call through to the MLA and handed over the phone to the SHO at Jamia Nagar. As per the diary entry, the MLA also misbehaved with the police officer over the call and said, “... mujhe bhi band krdo (You should arrest me as well).”
Subsequently, the police impounded the vehicle and later registered a case under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. They also imposed a total fine of Rs 20,000 – including Rs 5,000 for modified silencer, Rs 2,000 for misbehaving with police officer, Rs 5,000 for driving without driving licence, Rs 2,000 for driving without helmet, Rs 1,000 for driving dangerously, among others.
