Indian-origin woman's partner arrested 7 months after her murder in Canada's Toronto

A 32-year-old man has been arrested nearly seven months after his Indian-origin partner, Himanshi Khurana, was found murdered in Toronto, Canada, police said.
Abdul Ghafoori, who is also from Toronto, was located and arrested on Friday, August 7, and charged with first-degree murder, according to the Toronto Police Service.
He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday.
Members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit liaised with national and international policing partners to facilitate Ghafoori's return to Canada, police said without specifying the country he had been in.
According to the Toronto Police Service, officers received information about a woman missing from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area at around 10:41 pm on December 19, 2025, and launched a search operation. At approximately 6:30 am on December 20, officers found her dead inside a residence in the same area, and the death was classified as a homicide.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana of Toronto. Police said the victim and suspect were known to each other and released an image of Khurana.
Police said Khurana's death was Toronto's 40th homicide of 2025.
As the investigation progressed, police found that Ghafoori and Khurana were in an "intimate partner relationship". A countrywide warrant was subsequently issued for Ghafoori's arrest, and his photograph was released as police appealed to the public for information about him.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto had expressed shock over Khurana's death and said it was providing all possible assistance to her family.
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief,” it had said in a post on X.
“The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities,” it said.
