Investigation into Manipur blasts case handed over to NIA

A day after two blasts rocked Manipur’s Bishnupur district in which two persons were injured, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been handed over its probe. The first IED blast had taken place in an unoccupied house at around 5 am on Monday (January 5).

There was another IED explosion soon after, in which two civilians had sustained injuries. The case has been forwarded to the NIA for further investigation, Manipur police sources said.

They further informed that senior police officers of the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur district, visited the blast sites to take stock of the situation. Combing and search operations are being carried out in the adjoining areas.

Operational efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the blasts, they informed further. On December 16, another bomb attack was carried out by suspected Kuki militants at Torbung, around 4 km away from the site of Monday’s bomb blast. Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13 last year.
