Jharkhand MP Nishikant Dubey flashes books on Nehru, Priyanka Gandhi says Parliament rules violated

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of "double standards "after Jharkhand MP Nishikant Dubey quoted passages from books targeting the Nehru-Gandhi family in the Lok Sabha, despite a recent ruling requiring prior notice for such references.

The BJP MP from Jharkhand's Godda, accused the first family of Congress of indulging in 'debauchery and corruption', brandished four or five published books. TDP MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti, presiding at the time, initially asked him to stop under Rule 349, citing Speaker Om Birla’s ruling from two days ago—when Rahul Gandhi was barred from quoting an unpublished book on the 2020 India-China LAC standoff. The ruckus led to the adjournment of the House.

Dubey, who stood up to participate in the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, soon after the House had re-assembled at 2pm after two consecutive adjournments, mentioned that since a book is in news (referring to former Army chief MM Naravane's unpublished memoir which Rahul seeks to quote), he too had brought some books highlighting "corruption and debauchery of the illustrious family."

Priyanka Gandhi accused the Centre of double standards after Dubey was allowed to read from controversial books like 'Edwina and Nehru' targeting the Nehru-Gandhi family, after Rahul was stopped.

BJP leaders however said there was a difference in the two cases -- the books Dubey read are published and available; the one Rahul was quoting is not published.

Speaking to reporters, Priyanka said: “The government insults Parliament and democracy. Rahul Gandhi can’t quote a book, but Dubey displays six, quotes freely, and his mic stays on.”
