Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Monday said Jwala, a Namibian cheetah and a successful third-time mother, has given birth to five cubs at Kuno National Park.
The minister said in a post on X that the number of thriving Indian-born cubs has risen to 33, marking the 10th successful cheetah litter on Indian soil and another milestone in India’s cheetah conservation journey.
With the latest births, the total cheetah population in India has reached 53.
Recently, Gamini, a South African cheetah, became a mother for the second time, giving birth to four cubs. On February 28, nine cheetahs — six females and three males — brought from Botswana were released into quarantine enclosures at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The animals are currently undergoing acclimatisation and health monitoring before their gradual release into the larger landscape.
