Following a complaint, police registered a case against Mujeeb on Saturday, after which he went into hiding, officials said.

Police also said another case was registered against him on Sunday for allegedly contacting a doctor, who was also a friend of the narcotics accused, and demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from him.

Mujeeb allegedly threatened the doctor that he would be arraigned in the case if the money was not paid.

Following a probe, Mujeeb surrendered at the Ernakulam North police station on Monday.

Later, he was shifted to the Elamakkara police station where his arrest was recorded, officials said.

After the cases were registered against Mujeeb, he was suspended from service and a disciplinary probe was launched against him, police added.
