Latur cop ensures return of bag with valuables worth Rs 10 lakh

A policeman from Maharashtra’s Latur district promptly alerted the department after finding a bag containing valuables worth Rs 10 lakh, ensuring its return to the rightful owner, officials said on Wednesday.

Police said assistant inspector Annasaheb Khodewad from the Vivekanand Chowk police station was travelling in a private vehicle with a friend on the night of May 16, when they noticed a black bag near a college in the city.

Khodewad inspected the bag and found gold and silver jewellery inside. He reported the matter to his department, prompting a search, said officials.

After verification, the bag was identified as belonging to Jyoti Pratik Panchal, a Latur resident. Following legal procedures, the valuables, worth nearly Rs 10 lakh, were handed over to the owner, they said.

Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe praised Khodewad for his sense of duty, they added.
