Launching a scathing attack on the Left Democratic Front (LDF), senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday asserted that the Left would cease to exist in the country after the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking at an election campaign event for former Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, who is contesting as a Congress-backed independent in the Ambalapuzha constituency after leaving the CPI(M), Gandhi alleged that the CPI(M) in Kerala is driven by 'invisible strings of communalism'.

The movement, he said, no longer represents true Leftist values. He categorised the current LDF leadership into two groups: opportunists and the betrayed, referencing Sudhakaran, who had accused the party of leaving him in the lurch.

"There are two types of leaders in the Left today," Gandhi said, adding, "One group consists of opportunists who are willing to seek help from anyone—including the BJP—just to cling to power. The second group consists of those who genuinely believe in Left ideology, but they stand cheated and betrayed today."

The Congress leader also pointedly questioned why Central agencies and the Prime Minister, who relentlessly hunt the Congress, have spared Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

"I am fighting the RSS, and as a result, I face over 38 cases across the country. The BJP and Narendra Modi are constantly hounding the Congress party and me. Yet, I will not back down," Gandhi declared.

"But why is the Prime Minister not touching your Chief Minister? Why is there no action against his family?" He alleged that the Prime Minister's objective is to assist the Left and the Chief Minister because the BJP knows the Left poses no real challenge to them nationally.

Gandhi also criticised the Prime Minister for what he termed Modi's silence about the Sabarimala gold theft.

"Narendra Modi talks about temples every day and accuses others of insulting them. Yet, the most important temple in Kerala was looted. Gold was stolen and replaced with copper. This was the gold of Lord Ayyappa," Gandhi alleged, adding that the Prime Minister remained silent on the issue during his visit to the state to protect his "understanding" with the LDF.

"Modi has forgotten even God in his pursuit to help the Left. The silence of the PM regarding the Chief Minister’s controversies is the biggest proof of the BJP-CPI(M) nexus," he said.
