The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon on Thursday shortly after it assembled for the day, as opposition members created a ruckus in the House.

As soon as the House met at 11 am, Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting members to allow the Question Hour to proceed, stressing its importance in ensuring government accountability. However, the appeals from the Chair went unheeded as opposition members continued raising slogans, making it difficult for proceedings to continue.

Amid the din, Birla repeatedly asked the members whether they wanted the important Question Hour to take place or not. With the uproar persisting and nothing audible in the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till noon.

Later, the house reconvened and adjourned the session till 2 pm amid chaos.

Following the rejection of the motion moved by the Opposition against the Speaker, Birla presided over the House today.

Notably, Om Birla had not been presiding over the House after the Opposition moved a resolution seeking his removal from the Speaker’s post. The Lower House had on Wednesday rejected it through a voice vote. The resolution witnessed a heated debate in the House that lasted for more than 12 hours.

Since the resumption of the Budget Session, the Lok Sabha has witnessed continuous interruptions, with opposition parties repeatedly staging protests over various issues, leading to frequent adjournments and disruption of scheduled legislative business.
