Maliwal alleges rift in AAP, targets Kejriwal

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal, alleging growing internal dissatisfaction within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and accusing its leadership of straying from its founding principles.

Speaking to reporters, Maliwal claimed that several prominent figures, including Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan and Kumar Vishwas, along with “thousands and millions of volunteers”, had distanced themselves from the party under Kejriwal’s leadership.

“I believe that no good person can work with Arvind Kejriwal for long. The party is breaking from within,” she said, adding that she remained in contact with party members and that “no one is happy with Arvind Kejriwal”.

Escalating her criticism, Maliwal accused Kejriwal of betraying the ideals he once represented.

Recalling his image during the anti-corruption movement, she said he had inspired people as a modest leader promising systemic change.

However, she alleged that after coming to power, he adopted a lifestyle inconsistent with those ideals, citing claims of an expensive residence, luxury furnishings and high-end amenities.
