Modi overtaking Nehru as longest serving elected PM is matter of record, no competition: Fadnavis
Modi became the longest continuously serving elected PM of India, completing an unbroken tenure of 4,399 days
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's place in the making of a New India is unshakeable, rejecting any comparison or competition between him and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
He said Modi overtaking Nehru as the country's longest-serving elected prime minister is "only a matter of record".
Modi became the longest continuously serving elected PM of India, completing an unbroken tenure of 4,399 days, surpassing the record of the first prime minister, Nehru, who served 4,398 days.
"There is no competition. This is only a matter of record. Among elected prime ministers, Nehruji had a record of 4,398 days. Modi ji has now completed 4,399 days and will continue further," Fadnavis told reporters in New Delhi.
He said everyone knows what Nehruji did during his tenure as the prime minister and what Modiji has done.
"There is no intention of making a comparison. There is no such issue at all. In the making of a New India, Modi ji's place is unshakeable. Therefore, I do not want to compare him with anybody. There is no reason to make any comparison," Fadnavis said.
