The Congress on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 promise of ‘Na khaunga, na khane doonga’ had turned out to be a “hoax”. The party accused the PM Modi-led government of delivering “minimum governance and maximum cover-ups” while citing a series of alleged corruption cases and governance failures over the past 12 years.Congress general secretary and in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said Modi came to power in May 2014 promising zero tolerance towards corruption, but the government’s record had consistently contradicted that pledge.

Tracing what he called a pattern of corruption, Ramesh said former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had described the November 8, 2016, demonetisation as an “organised loot and legalised plunder”.

He further alleged that the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) was forcibly merged with ONGC to conceal an alleged Rs 20,000 crore scam dating back to Modi’s tenure as the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Referring to the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme, Ramesh alleged that the scheme had turned into a Rs 4 lakh crore “Chanda do, dhanda lo” scam.

Ramesh also pointed out that the Congress had raised questions over the growth of the Adani Group through its ‘Hum Adani ke hain kaun’ campaign, under which it had asked the PM a series of 100 questions. He further claimed that questions raised over the Rafale fighter aircraft deal also remained unanswered.

The Congress leader also questioned the functioning of the PM CARES Fund, describing it as “non-transparent and non-accountable”. He alleged that although the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had been weakened, its reports had still flagged significant irregularities in flagship government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat.

Ramesh said recent developments had further exposed the “hollowness” of PM Modi’s anti-corruption promise. He alleged that the reported embezzlement of donations made to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya by persons linked to the RSS-BJP ecosystem had shaken the nation’s conscience.

Referring to Arunachal Pradesh, he said the state’s Chief Minister (Pema Khandu) continued to be in office despite the Supreme Court’s April 6, 2026, order directing a CBI investigation into decisions taken over a ten-year period that allegedly benefited members of his family.

Ramesh also alleged that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav continued to be in office despite “credible revelations of questionable land deals and transactions benefiting his relatives”.

The Congress leader further alleged that the Opposition parties were being split through financial inducements. He claimed that a Minister of State in the Centre continued to hold office despite having allegedly availed subsidy under a scheme administered by his own ministry.

He also questioned the abrupt removal of four close aides of Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, saying it had raised legitimate doubts over the circumstances that led to their dismissal.

Ramesh further alleged that decisions relating to the rollout of E20 fuel were being taken in a manner that would benefit the family of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

He also alleged that although Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had assumed office in her own right, there was ample evidence to suggest that members of her family were actively participating in administrative and governance matters.

The Congress leader also accused the Prime Minister of continuing with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan despite a “corrupt and compromised” examination system that had shattered the aspirations of millions of students across the country.
