National Medical Commission tightens vigil ahead of NEET-UG 2026
Tells medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2 & 3
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2 and 3, except in exceptional circumstances, as a preventive measure to discourage any potential misuse and ensure the fair conduct of NEET (UG) 2026.
It has also directed institutions to remain vigilant and sensitise students against involvement in any activities that could compromise the examination process.
The advisory follows instructions issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, aimed at maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the national-level entrance exam.
The notice has been circulated to all Deans and Principals of medical colleges, as well as senior officers of medical education departments in all states and Union Territories, for necessary action and compliance.
According to a public notice issued on Thursday, the step comes in view of instances reported in the past where students were allegedly involved in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the examination.
The NMC has emphasised that strict compliance of these directions is mandatory for all medical colleges and institutions across the country.
The NEET (UG) 2026 examination is scheduled to be held on May 3 in pen-and-paper mode across various centres nationwide. Being one of the largest entrance examinations in the country, it requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth, fair and secure process.
