NEET UG 2026: NMC asks medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2-3
It comes as a preventive measure to discourage misuse and ensure the fair conduct of NEET UG
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2 and 3 except in exceptional circumstances, as a preventive measure to discourage misuse and ensure the fair conduct of NEET UG 2026.
It has also directed institutions to remain vigilant and sensitise students against involvement in activities that could compromise the examination process. The advisory follows instructions from Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, aimed at maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the national-level entrance exam.
The notice has been sent to all deans and principals of medical colleges, and to senior officers of medical education departments in all states and Union territories, for compliance.
According to a public notice issued on Thursday, the step comes after past instances where students were allegedly involved in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the exam. NMC has said strict compliance with these directions is mandatory for all medical colleges and institutions.
NEET UG 2026 is scheduled for May 3 in pen-and-paper mode across centres nationwide. As one of the country’s largest entrance exams, it requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth, fair and secure process.
