No call on Karnataka CM issue: Congress

"Please do not speculate. I am requesting with folded hands," Congress general secretary for Karnataka Randeep Surjewala said a day after party sources indicated growing support of Gandhis for DK Shivakumar as Siddaramaiah's replacement.

Siddaramaiah himself appeared to fuel the speculation when he said he would comment on the issue tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the CM has set up a breakfast date with all Cabinet colleagues at his Bengaluru home tomorrow with Shivakumar, today in Delhi, to also join.

Sources said the CM had also sought an appointment with state Governor Thawarchand Gehlot.

These signs intensified the speculation that Siddaramaiah may be planning to resign tomorrow. But Surjewala sought to downplay the developments and said that currently no meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka had been scheduled.

"No other decision has been taken yet. As things evolve, we will inform you. I cannot tell you what will happen after one month, 20 days, tomorrow, six months or one year, that is speculation," Surjewala said hours after Siddaramaiah's supporters raised slogans outside his residence and warned of the Congress decline in the state should the CM be disturbed.

The Congress high command yesterday hosted meetings with Sidda and Shivakumar and is learnt to have urged the former to step aside in the wake of the rotational CM decision that was taken at the time the party won. Siddaramaiah has, however, bought time to decide.
