“Your unwavering commitment to constitutional values and your dedication to strengthening parliamentary traditions have always been inspiring, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,” Birla said, adding that the Prime Minister’s leadership motivates all those involved in parliamentary work.

Earlier, PM Modi had lauded Birla for conducting Lok Sabha proceedings with dedication to the Constitution and parliamentary traditions, saying his manner of presiding over the House inspires everyone.

The Prime Minister also referred to Birla’s remarks after the rejection of the no-confidence motion, saying the sentiments expressed by the Speaker at that time were meaningful and worth listening to.

“Honourable Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has been conducting the proceedings of the House with dedication to parliamentary traditions and the Constitution in a way that inspires everyone. After the no-confidence motion was rejected, the way he expressed his feelings is something everyone should definitely listen to,” Modi said in a post on X.

On Thursday, Birla, while speaking in the House after the Opposition’s motion seeking his removal from the Speaker’s post was rejected, defended the functioning of the Lok Sabha and rejected allegations by the Opposition that their voices were being suppressed.

He asserted that every member — including the Leader of the Opposition — has the right to speak only in accordance with established rules and procedures, emphasising that no individual stands above the authority of the House.
