Panels on Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, Shiksha Adhishthan Bill get extensions to submit reports

The Select Committee on Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, was on Thursday granted extension by the Lok Sabha till March 13, 2026, to submit its report to Parliament.

Similarly, the Joint Committee on the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill, 2025, also was granted extension of time by the Lok Sabha to submit its report on the first day of last week of the Monsoon Session.

The Jan Vishwas (Amendments of Provisions) Bill, 2025, was approved by the Union Cabinet on August 12, 2025, and was subsequently laid before the Lok Sabha on August 18, 2025.

Thereafter, the Bill was referred to the Select Committee constituted under the chairmanship of BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.

A total of 355 provisions are proposed to be amended and 288 provisions are to be decriminalised under the proposed Bill to foster “ease of doing business”. As many as 67 provisions are proposed to be amended to facilitate “ease of living” under the legislation.

The joint committee of Parliament set up to examine the VBSA is headed by BJP MP D Purandeswari.

The 31-member panel with members from the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha was constituted on Tuesday (February 10).

A resolution moved by panel chairperson D Purandeswari to extend time for the presentation of the report of the joint committee on VBSA up to the first day of the last week of the Monsoon Session was adopted by a voice vote in the Lok Sabha.

The Bill seeks to establish a single higher education regulator.

The VBSA Bill, introduced during the Winter Session in December 2025, seeks to overhaul the higher education regulatory framework in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
