PM salutes supreme sacrifice of Sahibzadas at NDA meet, stresses ease of life

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday saluted the supreme sacrifice made by Guru Gobind Singh's sons -- Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh -- and called for awareness about their conviction to their faith, which they preserved at the cost of their lives.

Speaking at the NDA parliamentary party meeting in the capital on Tuesday, the PM referred to the upcoming Vir Bal Diwas on December 26, a day dedicated to the commemoration of the sacrifice of the Sahibzadas, and called for it to be observed all over India.

The government had declared December 26 as Vir Bal Diwas in 2022 to commemorate the bricking alive of the Sahibzadas by the Mughal faujdar of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, on December 26, 1704.

The two young sons of the tenth Sikh guru remained unyielding in the face of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's threats to convert to Islam.

Modi also urged MPs to improve their connection with the masses and reiterated the government's pledge for reforms, stressing ease of life for the common man.

The PM's remarks on ensuring that common citizens are not harassed came in the wake of the aviation sector mess created by leading player IndiGo, with flights continuing to be cancelled.

The PM said rules are meant to ease people's lives and not harass them.

The government had pledged strict action against IndiGo, with the airline losing flight schedules.
