Former Rajya Sabha member Pavan K Verma on Thursday said JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar leaving state politics will create a huge void in Bihar.

“Nitish ji’s apparent decision to move away from state politics will create a big void in Bihar. He strode like a colossus for decades. And for all the weaknesses that any leaders may have, his achievements were also such that he was supported by a large number of Biharis who benefitted from what he did,” he said at the launch of his latest book ‘The Lady Who Carried the Monk Across the River’.

JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday filed the nomination for the Rajya Sabha, bringing the curtains down on his tenure as the longest-serving CM of Bihar.

Kumar, who has been the CM since 2005, said the new government that will be formed in the state will have his full cooperation and guidance. This comes barely about four months after Kumar was sworn in for a record 10th term at a grand ceremony in Patna on November 20 last year.

Verma, however, said that there is more to come, and it is too early to call it a closure.

“… But all I will say is that what is happening in Bihar…. I will sum it up by one phrase. Picture Abhi, Baki Hai. So there’s more to come,” he added.

The development has sparked intense political speculation in the state, with discussions gaining momentum that Bihar could soon see its first Chief Minister from BJP.

The Election Commission has announced that polling for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, including Bihar, will be held on March 16.
