West Asia conflict: PM Modi to chair Cabinet Committee on Security meet tonight
In addition to security challenges, conflict poses threat to supply chains, particularly oil as Iran closes Strait of Hormuz
As the situation in the Middle East escalates amid continued pounding by Iran on US troops stationed there, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tonight chair a high level security meet to assess the impact for India.
Modi will chair the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security at around 10 pm today, official sources said.
“PM will chair a meeting of the CCS on returning to Delhi tonight. He is expected to land in Delhi after a two long tour,” Government of India sources added.
In addition to the immediate security risks from ongoing strikes between US‑Israel forces and Iran, the conflict poses a serious threat to critical supply chains, particularly oil, potentially causing widespread disruptions in the availability of essential commodities.
Experts say that 20 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday and today that number may be zero as Iran closed down the Strait.

20 million barrels of oil pass through this strait every single day. 15 per cent of all liquefied natural gas on earth transits this chokepoint and one-fifth of global petroleum supply moves through a channel 21 miles wide at its narrowest between Iran and Oman.
Sources said chiefs of three services may also join the meeting though there’s no final confirmation yet.
