Rlys fines IRCTC, caterer Rs 60 L over poor food quality
IRCTC was fined Rs 10 lakh for service deficiencies, while the private catering service provider was penalised Rs 50 lakh and directed to terminate its contract
The Indian Railways has cracked down on lapses in onboard catering, imposing a penalty of Rs 60 lakh on its entity, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), and the service provider, signalling that passenger experience is non-negotiable.
According to officials, the action followed a complaint by a passenger travelling on the Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 21896) on March 15 over food quality.
IRCTC was fined Rs 10 lakh for service deficiencies, while the private catering service provider was penalised Rs 50 lakh and directed to terminate its contract.
Officials said the move underscored the Railways’ commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and passenger satisfaction, reiterating that passenger safety and quality remain top priorities.
