CWC meet: Congress chief Kharge urges party leaders to unite against BJP

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday emphasised the need for party leaders to stop infighting and present a united front against BJP. This statement comes after the party’s unexpected defeats in Haryana and Maharashtra.

Kharge made these remarks during the Congress Working Committee meeting at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi. He stressed that the party needs to learn from its recent electoral losses and make tough decisions to strengthen its organisation.

Kharge expressed concerns over the reliability of electronic voting machines (EVMs), stating that they have made the electoral process “suspect”. He urged the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

The Congress chief also slammed factional fights within the party, saying that a lack of unity has harmed the party more than anything. “We must fight elections together, stop making statements against each other, and focus on defeating our opponents,” Kharge said.

Kharge acknowledged that the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha poll had filled them with new enthusiasm, but the results of the elections in three states held thereafter were not as expected. He stressed that the party needs to learn from these results, correct its weaknesses, and strengthen its organisation up to the booth level.

“INDIA parties formed the government in two out of the four states. But our performance was below expectation. The result is a message as well as a challenge for the future,” he said.

The Congress chief also highlighted the need for the party to fine-tune its strategy for contesting elections in every situation. He emphasised that the ways of contesting elections have changed, and the party needs to make its “micro-communication” strategy better than its rivals.

“We will have to learn to convert the atmosphere into results. What is the reason that we are not able to take advantage of the atmosphere?” he questioned.

Kharge asserted that despite the party’s electoral losses, issues like unemployment, inflation, and economic inequality remain burning concerns in the country. He also stressed the importance of the caste census.
