The Delhi Police arrested two persons — one for sexually assaulting a UK woman after befriending her online and another one for molesting her — at a hotel in southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur area, an officer said on Thursday.

“The woman lodged a complaint in this regard, following which the two were arrested,” a senior police officer told The Tribune.

The officer said the incident occurred on March 11 when the UK national, who recently arrived in India as a tourist, checked in at a hotel in Mahipalpur.

“The accused, identified as Kailash (24), had befriended her on Instagram. She came to India for a holiday, first went to Goa and then came to Delhi on March 11,” the officer added.

According to the officer, the victim, after arriving in Delhi, booked a hotel where the accused came to meet her. The British national had a few drinks with the man before he allegedly raped her and left.

When she tried to raise the alarm with the hotel staffers, one of them, identified as the hotel’s 27-year-old housekeeper, touched her inappropriately in the hotel lift, the officer added.

The next day the woman went to a hospital where she narrated her ordeal and then approached the police who, based on her complaint, registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to norms, the Delhi Police have intimated the British High Commission about the incident and are providing all necessary help to the woman.

The accused were produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody.
