The police have booked 18 jail inmates in two incidents of clash erupted in the high-security prison here on Friday.
In first incident, four prisoners attacked a group of inmates after breaking the grills in room number 8 of barrack number 2. Assistant Superintendent of Jail Sukhdev Singh told the police that an old enmity was the reason behind the incident.
He said Shubham Bhandari, Lovepreet Singh, Ravi Singh and Manga Singh exchanged blows with prisoners Ashish Rai, Jagjit Singh, Sonu Singh and Jagdeep Singh, who were present in room number 8.
In the second incident, 10 jail inmates — Karamjit Singh of Patiala, Shamsher Singh of Gurdaspur, Rishi Sethi of Putlighar, Subeg Singh of Jandiala Guru, Kapil Kumar of Karampura, Amandeep Singh, alias Chinni of Sultanwind Road area, Rohit Sharma of Fateh Singh Colony, Tarsem Singh of Tarn Taran, Sagar Singh of Gawal Mandi and Mandeep Singh of Housing Board Colony — attacked a prisoner, identified as Amandeep Singh, alias Goli.
The Assistant Superintendent of Jail said around 6.30pm, the accused broke the grill and damaged property inside the jail premises. Two separate cases under Sections 323, 324, 427, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act has been registered.— TNS
