Jalandhar, February 24

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Balkar Singh has ordered the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all parking lots falling in the jurisdiction of the Police Commissionerate.

Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the DCP said contractors of parking lots at the railway station, bus stands, religious places, hospitals and malls would install high-definition cameras inside and outside the lots.

He said the owners must submit the CCTV recording of 45 days to the security branch of the Police Commissionerate in a CD.

He said the contractors would also keep the record about credentials of those who would park the vehicle for over one day, including name, mobile number or ID, vehicle's details (RC number, chasis and engine numbers), date of parking vehicle and taking back.

The DCP said if a driver wanted to park his/her vehicle for over 24 hours, he/she should be made to provide the copy of the licence and the registration of the vehicle with address details.

Besides, he also directed the contractors to mandatorily ensure police verification of workers at parking lots. He said the orders would be in force till April 21.

To maintain law and order in the city, the DCP also banned the carrying of any kind of sharp weapons, a baseball bat or any deadly weapons in vehicles.

Singh said carrying of such things in the vehicles had been prohibited in the jurisdiction of the Police Commissionerate. These orders will remain in force till April 23.
