Covid-19: Recoveries in J&K surpass new cases for fourth consecutive day

1,549 patients discharged in last 24 hours, recovery rate in UT climbs to 70 per cent; 1,104 new cases

J&K’s coronavirus recoveries surpassed new cases for the fourth consecutive day with 1,549 patients – 960 from Jammu province and 589 in Kashmir Valley – discharged from various hospitals across the UT on Thursday after being treated for the viral infection.

J&K reported 1,104 in the last 24 hours even as recoveries climbed to 48,079 – 70 per cent of the total cases registered across the UT.

As per the Health Department data, 34,084 patients have so far recovered from the infection in Kashmir valley, while 13,995 people have recuperated in Jammu division.

Recovery rate in Kashmir is 79 per cent as out of 43,142 positive cases registered so far, 34,084 have recovered.

As far as Jammu division is concerned, the recovery rate has reached nearly 55 per cent with 13,995 patients out of total 25,472 recovering from the infection so far.

On Wednesday, 2,796 recoveries – highest in single day – were reported in J&K with 1,249 new cases.

Jammu district, where the recovery rate dropped dangerously from 64 to 31 in the first 15 days of September, is witnessing encouraging trend with rapidly increasing recoveries.

On September 23, Jammu recorded 230 positive cases in comparison to 1,069 recoveries.

Some districts of Kashmir valley, like Anantnag and Banidpora, are also witnessing a similar trend.

Anantnag and Bandipora reported 40 and 41 positive cases respectively on Wednesday while recoveries stood at 436 and 215.

Same is the story from Udhampur where 200 patients recovered in comparison to 48 new cases.

After witnessing a continuous spike in the positive cases, for the first time after two months on September 21, the single-day recoveries in J&K surpassed the new cases of infection as 1,158 patients were discharged from hospitals across the UT on that day.

Earlier it was on July 18 when the recoveries were more than the single-day cases reported in J&K.
