Executive magistrate booked for providing logistic support to militants

The J&K Police have registered a case against a first-class executive magistrate for allegedly providing logistic support to the militants.

While police claim a hideout was busted on Friday in a shop belonging to Nazir Ahmad Wani, a Naib Tehsildar in Pulwama, his family rejected the police version, saying that it was not a hideout and nothing incriminating was recovered.

“On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by Pulwama Police, 44 RR and CRPF at Bellow Dhargund Pulwama. During the search in the area, the joint team busted a hideout in a shop belonging to Nazir Ahmad Wani. The joint teams were able to recover incriminating material, including huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the hideout,” said a police spokesperson.

“Officers during the course of investigation learnt about Nazir’s involvement in providing logistic support to the terrorists,” the spokesperson added.

Accordingly, police registered a case under relevant sections of law at Rajpora police station and initiated investigation into the matter.

Wani’s family though rejected the allegation.

“We have a pesticide shop and there is a store in the shop. The forces did not find anything incriminating during the searches,” said a family member of Wani. “He (Wani) and his son have been detained by police and it looks he is being framed.”  

Incidentally, the Executive Magistrate had submitted a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama on April 10 against the police, after his driver was allegedly assaulted during the COVID lockdown duty at Rajpora Chowk in Pulwama. 

“My vehicle was forcibly stopped in the presence of some police officers, who were there in BP (bullet proof) vehicles by flag during duty and my driver was ruthlessly beaten. I pleaded with the police that I am on duty in this very chowk and he is my driver, but they didn’t listen,” the Magistrate had written in his complaint.

Wani had sought strict action against policemen involved in the alleged assault.
