Jammu, September 10

The Jammu Police on Thursday claimed to have solved the theft cases reported in the border belts of Arnia and R S Pura recently with arrest of a notorious thief.

Gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were recovered from the possession of the thief, the police said.

“Sohan Lal alias Sonu, a resident of Chakroi RS Pura was caught when a special team led by SHO Jai Pal Sharma, under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan started following him technically,” said SSP, Jammu, Shridhar Patil.

“Many times Sonu gave a slip to police, went underground and was dramatically continuing with his day light thefts,” Patil elaborated.

“He used to roam around the area during day time only and was in the habit of scanning the houses continuously. Wherever he found a house with a lock, he quickly broke open the lock and carried out his activity,” said the SSP while briefing mediapersons at RS Pura police station.

Patil was flanked by SP, Headquarters, Jammu, Raja Aadil Hamid and SDPO, RS Pura, Shabir Khan.

“I appeal to public of Jammu that whenever they move out of their houses, it is better to keep somebody at home or at least inform the neighbours,” said Patil.

With the arrest of Sonu around six theft cases under RS Pura and Arnia police stations have been solved.

Border inhabitants appreciated the police action and recovery of valuables.

Notably, Sonu was involved in different FIRs in many police stations of Jammu.

Police are also investigating the chain of the persons who were hand in glove with Sonu.
