12 detained in Counter Intelligence raids across Kashmir

In a statement, the CIK said the operation targeted what it described as “a clandestine terror-support ecosystem masquerading as voices of social change.” The searches were carried out in connection with an FIR registered at the CIK Police Station, Srinagar, under Sections 505 and 153-A of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The action was taken after obtaining search warrants from the court of the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar, the agency said.

According to police, the case is based on credible intelligence inputs suggesting that certain individuals were allegedly exploiting platforms linked to mass media, social media, human rights advocacy, environmental causes and women’s empowerment to carry out activities “prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.”

“Discreet verification revealed suspected links with secessionist groups and proscribed terrorist organisations,” the statement said, adding that some of the individuals were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based terror handlers through encrypted communication applications.

Investigators suspect the individuals of peddling false narratives, glorifying terrorism, radicalising youth and attempting to disrupt public order and peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Based on these inputs, 12 locations across Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Budgam and Shopian were searched. During the operation, police seized what they described as incriminating digital material, including 10 mobile phones, one laptop and 14 SIM cards, which are being subjected to forensic examination.

“The operation has dismantled a covert network that sought to exploit the credibility of social causes to advance terror agendas,” the CIK said, adding that further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses. The probe is continuing to identify other alleged conspirators and trace their communication links with handlers across the border.
