Srinagar/Leh, June 14

J&K on Monday recorded 599 fresh cases, taking the infection tally to 3,08,011, while nine more deaths pushed the toll to 4,195, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 161 were from the Jammu division and 438 from the Kashmir division.

Srinagar district recorded the highest of 161 cases, followed by 62 in Kupwara district. The active cases have dropped to 13,532 in the Union Territory, while 2,90,284 patients have recovered from the infection so far. The death toll due to the disease rose to 4,195 as nine patients died in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, officials said there were 20 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the Union Territory as one fresh case has surfaced.

Ladakh recoveries outpace new cases

Ladakh has recorded more recoveries than new cases as 105 people were discharged while only 17 new cases surfaced

Ladakh recorded more recoveries than new cases as 105 people got discharged from hospitals after battling Covid, while only 17 new cases were added.

As per the media bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services, Ladakh, a total of 17 new positive sample reports have been received. Out of the total positive reports, 16 were reported in Leh and one in Kargil, officials said.

A total of 2,651 sample reports in the Union Territory, including 1,972 in Leh and 679 in Kargil, were found negative. Officials said the latest update took the Union Territory’s overall tally to 19,561, including 16,161 in Leh and 3,400 in Kargil.

With this, the active cases have come down to 658. A total of 197 people have died due to Covid in the Union Territory so far, including 143 in Leh. As many as 105 patients were also discharged during the period after successful treatment, taking the number of recoveries to 18,706 or over 94 per cent of the total cases. — PTI
